Officially formed in 2001, this modern rock band has a well rounded mix of influences and personalities. Mike Murphy and Chris Huber met up in the summer of '99, and realized they shared the same dream--to start a rock band. Soon after they were introduced to the drummer, Dave Pacer and began having jam sessions and playing house parties for friends. By the time they found a bass player and had landed their first gig, the news was given that he would be leaving the band and moving away to Florida. That's when Niall O'Sullivan stepped up to the plate and delivered a grand slam, learning the bass lines for about 30 songs in 2 weeks. The band is now playing local gigs around the Kansas City area, and is currently working on their first demo album.

Sunny Side Down is definitely NOT your typical bar band. The band plays all of today's favorite rock hits, as well as high quality original songs that could be the future rock hits of tommorow. Of course, they also know how to mix in many older tunes, as well, which allows them to appeal to all ages. "The one comment we get at every show is that we are one of the only bands in town that actually plays the music that people really want to hear. We like to be extremely versatile with our songs. " Imagine getting to see a live concert with all your favorite bands , and not paying near the price of admission.

Sunny Side Down covers bands such as:

Weezer, Linkin Park, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains, Metallica, Green Day, Poison, Guns N Roses, SR71, Eve 6, AC/DC, CCR, Cheap Trick, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Cake, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, Lenny Kravitz, Creed, Seven Mary Three, Tonic, Lit, Sublime, Marvelous 3, Our Lady Peace, Cake, System of a Down, Puddle of Mud, Staind, Police, Candlebox, American Hi-Fi, Nickelback, Everclear, Foofighters, New Found Glory, Default, Pearl Jam...to name a few!!
"We strive to perform each song with the same quality and intensity of the original artists.

Perhaps one of the most exciting elements of a Sunny Side Down gig is the opportunity to hear their original songs such as "Better This Way", "I Can Never Win", "Make You Mine", "Last Goodbye", "Just One Night", "Rise", "Broken Dreams" , etc. "We try to mix the originals into the sets in a way that will keep the crowd up on the floor. We've been known to play a 5 hour gig where some of our sets might last a full 1 1/2 hrs straight...and we've not only kept the crowd into it--but they actually kept calling for more and more...long after they were supposed to have gone home!
(We'd like to thank John's Big Deck for letting us and our fans stay late during all those wild nights!)

"Our family, friends, and the fan base we've built have truly been great to us.
We appreciate all of your support and would like to thank each one of you for continuing to push us towards our dream...not to mention rocking the house during each one of our shows!

Mike Murphy

Growing up in Spring Hill, Kansas, this small town rocker always had huge dreams with his music. Although he learned the piano early on, it wasn't until he got his first guitar at the age of 14 that he found his true love for music. Inspired by many bands such as Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Guns N Roses, Pearl Jam, and Led Zeppelin, his favorite band of all-time is Metallica. It wasn't long before Mike was writing and recording his own songs in his parent's basement with a karaoke machine. Since their house was also a business (Big Foot Kennels), the audience was NOT your typical audience. " I can still remember being in middle of recording a song only to have a dog start howling in the background. Not sure if they were singing along, or screaming in horror, but they made one hell of an audience! ".

After graduating college from Emporia State University, Mike began working as a computer programmer for DST Systems, Inc in 1999. When he's not absorbed into work or music, he enjoys playing sports such as basketball, softball, and the occasion game of golf.

Mike takes his music very seriously when he's writing or playing songs. " To me, the lyrics behind a song are just as important and powerful as the music itself. Some bands write songs about nothing...and don't get me wrong, they sound great--but I could never do it ". His ultimate dream is to have their music be heard across the world. " Yeah, being rich and famous would be nice, but all I really want is for our songs to be heard on the radio one day. I want to create songs that people will listen to, relate to, and remember forever ." His favorite Sunny Side Down original is "Make You Mine" .

" I owe all of my success to my parents, my family and friends who have supported me throughout the years, and of course, to all the fans who have been there for us--ready and willing to let us rock you all night long! Thank you all very, very much ."

Chris Huber

He was a corn fed Iowa boy who loved listening to 80's hair metal. Bands like Poison and Bon Jovi made him realize he wanted to learn guitar. His parents bought a Fender Squire Strat and sent him to lessons. His guitar playing didn't quite take off until high school where he met up with a friend and found his true love of the guitar. He even built his own guitar! Inspired by music of the day and friends who like to jam, he taught himself to play. “I always wanted to play guitar, I just needed to learn it my way!”

After graduating from the University of Northern Iowa, Chris began and still is working as a computer programmer/consultant for Cerner Corporation.

When Chris finds some free time he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and of course, jamming with the SSD boys.

“I've always wanted to play in a band that plays the music that I grew up with.”

“The thing I love most about playing in this band is the energy that we create. The crowd gets up and rocks with us. It is feeling you can't explain.”

Special Thanks

Chris would like his thank his lovely wife Jean for her support with the band and life, his two little sweethearts Alayna and Avery. Also would like to thank his Mom, Dad, Lindsey, Molly, Cannon, Gaskill, Quass, Eric A., Jay B., Andy O, Jorge G, The boyz of SSD for sharing the dream!!!, Darren A., Babi M., Kris L., Lucas T., Nate R., Joe B.& Nate H. (The Big Delicious), and Aaron H..

I would like to especially thank all the SSD fans for making this dream a reality.

Dave Pacer

This guy grew up in Chicago listening to 80's rock.  His favorite all-time band is Iron Maiden.  David has been playing the drums since the age of 12.  He grew up playing in the footsteps of his father.  His father Greg Pacer was the drummer in a 60's rock band and also led the percussion line up for the National Champion drum and Bugle Core  "The Cavaliers".  Greg gave David his first 4-piece gray marble Ludwig drum set.  "Drums have always been a part of my life, and I hope to continue to expand my skills as Sunny Side Down expands into new ventures and songs.

By day, David is a financial advisor for Lincoln Financial Advisors where he shares strategic financial ideas with people. His direct # of 913-323-3267, or check the website www.lfakansascity.com . By night, David loves to jam with the crew from Sunny Side Down.  "We are very versatile and love to play a variety of music.  We love the new hits, but also love to rock out on old classic favorites like CCR".

" Most of all, we appreciate and want to thank our fans.  With out you, we would not be where we are today.  Keep showing up and hitting the dance floor ".

James Huey

James grew up in Moosejaw Saskatchewan as a walnut but quickly grew to become the worlds most powerful bean. He was ate at some time, the exact date is still unknown, by a young Kansas City boy and began his ploy for world domination. James received his wooden leg and artificial spleen during the Punic Wars while riding one of Hannibal's war elephants. He received his first instrument years ago, it was a pan flute, and he would enjoy jumping out from behind bushes scaring small children, livestock, and grasshoppers.

“I always liked playing Guitar because I have hands, if I didn't I wouldn't be very good at it.”

By day James is a mild mannered reporter for the Daily Planet by night he is a piece of our most primal lust bent on world domination, silky smooth panties, and really comfortable shoes.

“If I didn't play bass I'd play with myself so now I do both. That could hurt, it may even kill you, so stay out of trees before climbing.”

James enjoys long walks on the beach, running naked through barberries, standing on his head, and eating carrots. The life of James Huey cannot be fully understood until you pick up a copy of his autobiography “I once was a bean but now I'm not” in bookstores everywhere February 30, 2004.
